Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy is reportedly set to feature on the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further cementing the global rise of Nigerian music in international football culture.
The track, titled “Dai Dai,” will also include Colombian music icon Shakira, widely known for her previous World Cup hits such as “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” during the 2010 tournament.
According to FIFA, the anthem is scheduled for release on May 14 ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
With the collaboration, Burna Boy is expected to become only the second Nigerian artist to appear on an official FIFA World Cup song, following Davido’s appearance on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)” for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar alongside Trinidad Cardona and AISHA.
The announcement reflects the increasing global influence of Afrobeats within football entertainment and international sporting events.
Over the past few years, Nigerian artists have continued to gain visibility on major football stages worldwide. Burna Boy made history in 2023 as the first African artist to headline the UEFA Champions League final kickoff show in Turkey.
Other Nigerian stars, including Tems, Rema, and Davido, have also featured prominently at FIFA, UEFA, and other global football ceremonies.
Shakira recently teased the upcoming song with a promotional video filmed at Brazil’s iconic Maracanã Stadium, showcasing dancers dressed in colours representing different national teams.
